CheckPrivilege

CheckPrivilege

We believe it’s important that you manage your Checking Account responsibly and you never intentionally overdraw your account. However, we realize that from time to time you might have a financial shortfall and overdraw your account. Having a check returned due to insufficient funds can be costly.

Rather than returning unpaid, all non-sufficient funds items you may have, we will consider, without obligation on the part of the credit union, the payment of overdrafts up to a set limit.

The service is automatically assigned to qualifying Checking account holders and requires no action on your part. Your limit is automatically assigned:

– Overdraft payments up to $1,000 for Checking Accounts with Direct Deposit
– Overdraft payments up to $500 for Checking Accounts without Direct Deposit

You will receive a notice from the Credit Union when you use CheckPrivilege. You must bring your account to a positive balance within 32 days.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What does CheckPrivilege Cost? There is no additional cost associated with this privilege unless you use it. You will be charged our standard Nonsufficient Funds Fee (NSF) $30 for each item. (For example, three paid items in one day will result in three $30 NSF fees.)

How can I access CheckPrivilege? This service is available for checks, ACH, and recurring debit card transactions unless you opt out of CheckPrivilege in its entirety by contacting Member Services at 804.748.9488, option 2.  We will only approve and pay overdrafts for ATM and everyday debit card transactions if you ask us to by completing and submitting this form, calling or coming by one of our convenient branch locations.  It is important for you to note that the amount of the discretionary CheckPrivilege will not be shown in your available balance for ATM withdrawals or debit purchases.

What are some other ways I can cover overdrafts? The best way to avoid overdrafts is to properly manage your account, so you don’t overdraw it. Keep a cushion of funds in your savings and the money can be automatically transferred to your checking account if needed. You can also apply for our overdraft loan product, CheckGuard.

Note:

Whether the Credit Union pays your overdraft is discretionary and we reserve the right not to pay.  For example, we typically do not pay overdrafts if the account is not in good standing, if you are not making regular deposits or if you’ve exceeded your limit.
